Joan P Smith – Family & Local Historian.
I was born in Horbury Bridge. My elder brother Arthur Worth was killed in North Africa in 1943, aged just 20 and three years later, probably as a result of this, my family moved to South Ossett. I lived there for 12 years before moving away and I lived in various parts of England with my former husband, a prison officer. We returned to live in Wakefield in 1971 but I did not return to live in Ossett until 2000. Whilst living in Wakefield I became a founder member of Wakefield & District Family History Society (WDFHS). I have served in many roles in the Society and on June 7 2014, the 17th Anniversary of the founding of the Society, I became President until July 2016.
After years of researching local and family history, Joan P. Smith has retired and has generously donated this website to Anne-Marie Fawcett. If you have any suitable material you would like to be considered for inclusion on this website, please email: HorburyAndOssettFamilyHistory@gmail.com

I am incredibly grateful to have the privilege of carrying on Joan’s legacy through her website. I am determined to honour her years of research. I will maintain, finance, and update this website for all to gain from.
